Flagstaff Hill introduces free entry for locals

News Article Date:
Thursday, 14 December 2017

Anyone living within the Warrnambool City Council boundaries can now enjoy free daytime entry at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village.

The change was implemented as part of a new suite of membership packages, which includes a free membership to one of the region’s premier attractions for local residents.

Flagstaff Hill manager Paul Pinkerton said that the aim of the new memberships was to bring locals up to speed on all of the things to see and do at Flagstaff Hill.

“We had an open day in November, which was very well attended. The overwhelming feedback was that locals didn’t realise how many great activities there were for families at Flagstaff Hill,” he said.

“We want to build on this and make it easier for residents to get the most out of this highly regarded attraction in their own backyard.

“Flagstaff Hill has a 4.5 out of five star rating on popular travel website Trip Advisor based on more than 600 reviews, yet many local residents haven’t visited in years.

“As well as the rich collection of shipwreck artefacts in the museum, you can climb to the top of a lighthouse, explore the cobblestone village and its new interactive displays, visit the Maremmas, feed the friendly barnyard animals and chat with our in-costume volunteers.

“Word of mouth is one of the best promotional vehicles, so we hope that locals will share their experience with visiting friends and family.”

As well as unlimited free daytime entry, the free Local Membership includes 30 per cent off the brand new sound and light show, 30 per cent off New Year’s Eve and Easter on the Hill events, discounted participation in school holiday activities, 10 per cent off at the gift shop and more.

Residents of Moyne, Corangamite and Glenelg shires can make use of the “Hello Neighbour” membership, which includes all the benefits of the local membership, for $20 per family.

The existing VIP membership has been retained and includes free unlimited daytime entry, free entry to all special events and school holiday activities, 20 per cent off daytime tickets for anyone accompanying you, free entry to the sound and light show if being accompanied by a paying customer, 20 per cent off the gift shop and more. VIP memberships are $40 for singles, $60 for grandparents and grandchildren, and $80 for families.

Proof of address, such as a driver’s licence, will need to be provided in order to make use of the Local or Hello Neighbour memberships.
