Final asphalt layer for Stage 1 blocks

The final asphalt layer will be laid along Liebig Street between Koroit Street and Raglan Parade on Saturday October 28.

The work will complete the road and car parking pavement in these two blocks of Liebig Street.

To seal the road will require the full closure of the street.

“We’ve booked specific machinery that will provide the best finish on this section of the project,” Director City Infrastructure Scott Cavanagh said.

“Work will start on Saturday once the right temperature and moisture levels are reached.

“Saturday provides the best weather window to complete the works.

“Sunday is a ‘back-up’ day to finish the job if required.

“We had hoped to be able to deliver this work on Sunday and possibly Monday to further reduce the disruption to traffic but the weather forecast is potentially showers on Sunday and significant rain on Monday which would prevent any asphalting.

“It’s important to remember that access to off-street parking will be unaffected and parking spaces will remain available in Koroit and Lava streets.

“Weekend traders will remain accessible.”

Once the asphalting is complete there will be intermittent traffic interruptions to allow for line-marking, planting and furniture installation.

“We urge everyone to keep supporting their favourite cafes, restaurants and shops over the weekend and next week – weather permitting - there will be a high quality road surface to drive or ride along,” Mr Cavanagh said.

“We also appreciate people’s understanding while we complete the Koroit Street roundabout which still requires partial closures.”
