Council Elections

Council Elections are held every four years. The next election is scheduled for 2020.

Election results are available on the Victorian Electoral Commission website www.vec.vic.gov.au

Voting

Voting in Council elections is compulsory for anyone enrolled to vote, unless you are aged 70 or more.  If you are unsure if you are enrolled to vote or your address has recently changed, it is important to check or update your details by going to the Victorian Electoral Commission website www.vec.vic.gov.au  Alternatively, you may contact the Victorian Electoral Commission on 131 832.

The Council Election Period Policy provides information and guidance to Council employees, councillors and candidates to ensure that: 

  • the Council operates in a responsible and transparent way during the election period.

  • an election is conducted in an environment that is open and fair to all candidates.

Election campaign donations

All candidates whether elected or not must submit an election campaign donation return within 40 days of the election. The return is a record of significant gifts received by election candidates for use in their Council election campaigns.
